8 Interesting And Fun Facts You Didn’t Know About Twins

Multiple births are in the news all the time.
In fact, the UK news has been full of a
couple who has had three sets of twins and
a woman who gave birth to quintuplets
without fertility help! Twins are fascinating
and there are a lot of questions and
suspicion surrounding them. Here are
some interesting and fun facts about them.
1. Male Twins Won’t Necessarily Have
Twins
It has always been said that twins run in
the family but it is really only in the female
side of the family.
Two eggs (or one egg that splits) must
occur for twins and if a woman doesn’t
have the genetic predisposition to have
twins then they won’t happen.
2. Identical Twins Are Not Genetic
If a woman has identical twins, they will
not necessarily have them. Twins are
genetic – due to the woman have the
ability to release two eggs.
Identical twins occur because the egg splits
in two but this is not something that is
genetic.
3. Twins Have Different Fingerprints
Identical twins have the same DNA, which
is the makeup for our looks, eye colour and
fingerprints.
However, the fingerprints are different
between the two are completely different.
There is nothing to state why this happens.
4. Vanishing Twins
While carrying twins, a woman is 15%-20%
likely to lose one of them. There is no clear
reason why this happens as miscarriages
and stillbirths are still being researched.
Due to the early miscarriages, experts are
suggesting that one in eight people actually
start their life in the womb as a twin
without the mother ever knowing.
5. Twins Are Born Early
More than 50% of twins are born at the 37
week mark. This is three weeks earlier than
the expected due date but is still
considered full term.
The average weight of twins is 5lbs 5oz.
6. A Different Language
Around 40% of twins will develop their
own language.
This helps them communicate easily when
they are young and also means that they
can talk to each other without people
knowing what they are saying.
It also shows the close bond that the two
have together.
7. Twins Can Have Different Dads
The term twin usually refers to babies that
are born at the same time. It is possible for
them to have different dads. This occurs
when two eggs are released at the same
time but are fertilised with different sperm.
Between one and two percent of twins will
have different fathers and they can be
different races!
8. Twins Can Have Different Birthdays
It is possible for twins to be born on
different days. The second baby will not
always follow the first one right away and
can take an extra hour or two.
In very rare cases, babies can be born days
or even months apart depending on
medical issues. There have been cases of
twins born years apart due to fertilisation
happening outside of the womb for help
with fertility.
This is very rare though.

Queen of Nollywood, Nigeria’s booming
movie industry. Since her 1995 film debut,
the actress has appeared in some 300
movies, selling millions of videos and
establishing herself as a Nollywood icon.
A prolific film siren, Jalade-Ekeinde has
also carved out a successful career as a
singer and reality TV star. But there’s more
to Nigeria’s beloved celebrity than her
glittering entertainment career. Here are
10 things to know about Jalade-Ekeinde.
She’s an icon: Last year, she was named
as one of the top 100 influential people in
the world by Time Magazine, in the Icons
category. “I think that’s what gives me
more satisfaction,” she says. “The fact that I
wasn’t just recognized as an artist but as an
icon — I’m very grateful for it.”

She is an activist: Jalade-Ekeinde uses

beg her to allow Jalade-Ekeinde to appear
in the “Venom of Justice” movie.
She is part of “New Nollywood:” Keen
to improve the quality of Nollywood
movies , Jalade-Ekeinde is now building a
film studio — what she calls a “Village.”
“I’ve come to a place where I realize I have
to leave something,” she says. “I have to
have a legacy.

President Jonathan sends Cybercrime Bill to Senate

President Goodluck Jonathan has sent the
Cybercrime Bill 2013 to the Senate to be enacted
into law.
The bill titled, “Cybercrime Bill, 2013” was sent
to Senate President David Mark.
“I hereby introduce for formal consideration and
enactment into law by the Distinguished Senate
of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the
Cybercrime Bill, 2013,” Jonathan said.
The President did not give details as to the
content of the Bill and the punishment to be
meted out to those who violate its statutes.
The Federal Government is suspected by
Nigerians of trying to curtail the use of social
media in the country, due to the manner by
which Nigerian citizens use it to protest against
bad leadership, and corruption.
in 2011, Senator Gbenga Kaka (APC, Ogun East)
presented a bill to stop cybercrime. That bill
came under controversy due to a section related
to social media.
Section 13 (3) stipulated seven-year term for
those that give false information on social
media. Due to public outcry, the Senate decided
to expunge that section.
Senator Kaka, while briefing journalists, said,
“Following the public hearing, which was held
after the second reading, the Section 13 (3) of
the provision was taken exception to by the
social media.
“And since the bill is now in the public, I
decided to consult with the Senate Committee
Chairmen on Information and Judiciary, and
after consultation we resolved that Section 13
(3) of the proposed bill could be abused at any
point in time and could be misinterpreted and
as a result, I have their permission to announce
to the world that that section shall be deleted.
“I thank all those who have made contribution
both locally and internationally for the
enrichment they have brought into the bill
“I want to assure you that I don’t have monopoly
of power or knowledge and so we still welcome
more suggestions and debates that can further
enrich the bill so that it will be to the overall
interest of the country.
“The bill is targeted against the misuse of the
internet which in other countries is used for the
development and growth of the various
communities and in our own case, it was an
attempt to curb the activities of internet
scammers who always give us bad name both
locally and internationally.
“Section 13 (3) of the bill states that anyone who
intentionally propagate false information that
could threaten the security of the country or that
is capable of inciting the general public against
the government through electronic message,
shall be guilty of an offence and upon
conviction, shall be sentenced to seven years
imprisonment or N5 million fine or both.”

‘World’s Ugliest Woman’ Is Now A Motivational Speaker (PHOTOS)

Insults hurt in more ways than imaginable.
When someone says words could never
hurt them they’re usually just hiding
behind the hurt because the reality is that
negative words can cut deeply, causing
depression, low self-esteem and the list
goes on. But one young woman named
Lizzie Velasquez, age 24, used negative
words as inspiration to rise above her
situation.
Lizzie was once labeled as the “World’s
Ugliest Woman” because of a rare
deformity that she shares with only two
other people in the world, a rare syndrome
known as Neonatal Progeroid Syndrome.
It’s a condition that causes one to age faster
and lose fat at an accelerated rate.
Presently, Lizzie only weighs 58 pounds
because she is unable to gain weight. The
syndrome has also caused her to go blind in
her right eye.
But worse than the physical suffering,
Lizzie also has had to face a lot of
negativity. In high school she was a
constant victim of bullying. Lizzie
discovered a YouTube video called “World’s
Ugliest Woman” when she was in high
school that featured her. The video racked
up more than a million views and
comments. Her classmates would hurl very
hurtful words at her and perhaps one of the
most hurtful that Lizzie recalled was when
someone told her ‘put a gun to her head
and kill herself’.
Lizzie didn’t allow the hurtful words to
harm her, in fact, she used it as motivation
to inspire others. Being called the “World’s
Ugliest Woman” she could have easily
hidden herself away from the world. But
Lizzie rose above the situation to become
an author and motivational speaker. Now,
she stands before crowds of people
inspiring and motivating them with her
words.
Lizzie explains, ‘I’ve had a really difficult
life, but that’s OK. I’m going to let my goals
and my success and my accomplishments
define me, not my outer appearance.’
One question that Lizzie always asks her
audiences is ‘What defines you?’
She didn’t allow her outward appearance or
the negative things people said to her to
define her. She went on to become a
positive influence in the world. But, Lizzie
will tell you that it wasn’t easy. People may
think she’s totally resilient, but Lizzie will
tell you it’s difficult because she’s human
and it hurts. But she has found strength to
rise above her situation and author three
books, one of which is “Be Beautiful, Be
You.

Anti-gay law: Nigerian homosexuals plan protest in Abuja

Under the aegis of ‘The Right Defense’,
Nigerian gays and lesbians are staging a
protest, daring President Goodluck Jonathan
by demonstrating in Abuja.
According to a statement, they are protesting
against the anti-gay law which took effect
on 7 January after the president’s assent.
The anti-gay law has been criticized by a few
western countries describing it as an
infringement on the rights of gays and
lesbians.
PM News reports:
Nigerian gays in a statement they
accompanied with masked pictures of
themselves said they were protesting against
an “undemocratic and unlawful
discrimination” of gays and lesbians and
trans-genders in the country.
The demonstration in Abuja, they said, has
become necessary to condemn what they call
“an increase in threats against fundamental
human rights of certain persons including
LGBT in the country.”
“This is not an ideological protest movement.
It’s about quality of democracy in Nigeria.
This is about people making some very
democratic demands about the government’s
need to respect freedom of assembly and
freedom of association, as it is channelled in
the United Nations universal declaration of
Human Rights,” The Right Defense said.
The group added: “We also challenge the
existence of the Nigeria human rights body,
the National Human Right Commission for
its lack of integrity and principle in the fight
against discrimination and violation of
individual rights.”
The Right Defense said many of its members
have suffered overt discrimination from law
enforcement and judicial authorities,
particularly in their various communities for
being constantly accused of indecent
practices.
They said they often don’t report rights
violations to authorities out of fear of reprisal
or arrest.
The group said many Nigerians have in the
past fled the country due to threats to life and
harassment in their communities.
Those who have fled include Alimi Bisi, Philip
Temidayo Adabayo, Desmond Patric, Nkechi
Ugo, Lara Abiodun Akinniyi, Simeon Demola
Adesanmi, Penu K. Z, the group said.
“The planning for the unviolent rally is to
avert the continuous attacking of the
unarmed citizens and the unlawful and
arbitrary arrest of wanted individuals,” the
group said.
The individuals declared wanted by the
police, the group said, include, Lizzy betty,
Precious Rita, Orilonise Hakeem I, Aniere
Olaniran A., Egwabor Felix, Samuel
Adekunle Segun, Michael Olanrewaju O.,
Olorunmaku Taofeek and so many at large.
In the statement, the Right Defense Group it
commends European Union Countries and
the Canadian Government through its
representatives for standing for urging the
Nigerian government and the National
Assembly to reverse the prohibited same sex
law.
The press released was signed by Olalekan
Olasunkanmi A., L.Ogunhowo Olayinka,
Hunsu Samuel O., Adeola Ogunshola K.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu forms political party for gays in SA

Archbishop Desmond Tutu has surprised South
Africans by announcing the formation of a gay
political party called the Democratic Religious
Alliance Against Minority Antagonism
(DRAAMA).
The party is set to take part in a general election
later this year.
Last year Tutu outraged Christians when he
declared: “I would refuse to go to a homophobic
heaven…No, I would say sorry, I mean I would
much rather go to hell…I would not worship a
God who is homophobic and that is how deeply I
feel about this.”
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate and South
African archbishop emeritus added that he does
not believe religion provides justification for
homophobia.
His passion on the issue has led him to form the
world’s first gay political party to address an
issue which he feels president Jacob Zuma
“tiptoes” around.
The first and last time we ever heard president
Jacob Zuma addressing issues around anti-
homophobia was when he had to make a public
apology regarding a damaging statement he
made about this minority group.
In a media statement released on Wednesday,
DRAAMA said it is set to be at the forefront of
minority human-rights issues the current ruling
party has dragged its feet in addressing.
According to report: “With gay socialite and
choreographer Somizi Mhlongo being poached
as the party’s spin doctor, South Africans should
brace themselves for a lot of DRAAMA!!!”
Said Mhlongo: “I was pleasantly surprised upon
receiving a call from the honourable Archbishop
Desmond Tutu informing me of his intentions
and his request for my involvement.”
Before his election as South African President
Jacob Zuma was forced to apologise after
offending the gay community.
He was quoted as saying that same-sex
marriages were: “A disgrace to the nation and to
God.”
He also said that when he was a young man, he
would have knocked down any homosexual
person he met.
He later retracted his words and explained: “My
remarks were made in the context of the
traditional way of raising children … I said the
communal upbringing of children in the past
was able to assist parents to notice children with
a different social orientation. I however did not
intend to have this interpreted as a
condemnation of gays and lesbians.”
He also said he respected: “The sterling
contribution of many gay and lesbian
compatriots in the struggle that brought about
our freedom.”

‘I didn’t know I was pregnant’: Nun gives birth in Italy, names baby Francis

A Salvadorean nun who said she had no idea
she was pregnant gave birth in Italy this week
after she felt stomach cramps in her convent
and was rushed to hospital, Italian media
reported on Friday.
The 31-year-old mother and her baby boy,
who weighs 3.5 kilogrammes (nine pounds),
are doing well and other new mothers in Rieti
hospital have begun collecting clothes and
donations for her, the reports said.
“I did not know I was pregnant. I only felt a
stomach pain,” the nun was quoted as saying
at the hospital, the Italian news agency ANSA
reported.
La Repubblica said she gave birth on
Wednesday.
ANSA said the nun had named her baby
Francesco (Francis) — also the pope’s chosen
title and one of the most popular names in
Italy, where St Francis of Assisi is the much-
loved national patron saint.
The hospital could not be reached for
comment.
The nun belongs to the “Little Disciples of
Jesus” convent in Campomoro near Rieti,
which manages an old people’s home and
reports said she would keep the baby.
Her fellow nuns were quoted saying they
were “very surprised”.

a grand affair.
President Barack Obama is reportedly

performing at the ceremony.

“It’s A Shame That Nigeria Cannot Produce A Handkerchief At 100 Years” – Bishop Chukwuma

The Chairman of the Christian Association of
Nigeria, CAN, South East Zone, Rt. Rev. Dr.
Emmanuel Chukwuma has decried the slow
pace of development in Nigeria.
Bishop Chukwuma,
who is also the Anglican Bishop of Enugu
Diocese, was speaking yesterday shortly after a
church service held at the Good Shepard
Cathedral, Enugu, to mark his 60th Birthday.
He expressed regret that 100 years after the
amalgamation of the northern and southern
protectorates, Nigeria was still importing
handkerchiefs.
He also noted that the country was yet to find a
sense of direction at 100 years.
“It is a shame that Nigeria cannot produce a
handkerchief at 100 years. Our leaders need to
be sensible. Anybody above 70 years should
retire and become a consultant”, he said.
The cleric, who expressed appreciation to God
and his followers for his numerous
achievements since he became Bishop, assured
that he would not be discouraged by the current
situation of things in the country.
He advised the nation’s leaders and elders to be
sensible and distance themselves from
corruption as well as to give the young ones
opportunity to serve their father land in order
to avert a serious revolution.
The CAN leader also condemned Tuesday’s car
bombing in Maiduguri, Borno State that led to
the death of many innocent citizens, warning
that Nigeria cannot afford another civil war.
On the recently signed Anti-Gay bill, the cleric
hailed President Goodluck Jonathan for
resisting pressure from western nations, stating
that there is nothing like gay in the Bible.
Bishop Chukwuma, however, urged the
government to ensure the implementation of
the new law, insisting that Gay practice was
dehumanizing.
