Eminem wins big at MTV EMAs as Miley Cyrus causes controversy

Eminem was among the big winners at the MTV Europe Music Awards last night (10.11.13), picking up the Best Hip Hop and Global Icon accolades, while Miley Cyrus caused controversy by appearing to spark up a joint on stage.

The 41-year-old rapper won the Best Hip Hop and Global Icon prizes at the ceremony at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam - making him the artist with the most EMAs ever - and he celebrated his victory with a surprise performance of 'Bezerk' before a scintillating rendition of 'Rap God'.
Miley ensured she remained in the spotlight by sparking up what appeared to be a joint on-stage and then smoking it with Will Ferrell, who was at the awards as his 'Anchorman' alter-ego Ron Burgundy, before accepting her Best Video prize for 'Wrecking Ball'.
The blonde star - whose 'twerking' performance at the MTV VMAs in August caused controversy - told the crowd: ''I couldn't fit this award in my bag but I did find this...''
One Direction also won two accolades, Best Pop and Best UK & Ireland Act, and the band's 19-year-old hunk Harry Styles was named Best Look - beating the likes of Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake and Rita Ora to the gong - however none of the boy band were at the ceremony to pick up their prizes.
Other winners on the night included Katy Perry, who took home the Best Female gong, and Justin Bieber won Best Male for the fourth consecutive year, while 30 Seconds to Mars took home the Best Alternative award and Green Day won the Best Rock accolade.

David Beckham Becomes A ‘Sir’ By 2014

Former England skipper, David Beckham is likely to receive Knighthood after been unveiled as one of the potential names on the New Year’s Honours List in England yesterday. The footballer’s likely honour means he will be given the official title Sir, while his fashion designer wife will become ‘Lady Victoria.’

The 38-year-old football ambassador has been named as one of the potential candidates for the Royal accolade, with officials reportedly carrying out standard checks before he is officially confirmed.

According to The Sun , ‘HM Revenue and Customs look at the higher honours – specifically at the high earners like sports people – to see if there is anything they want to double check. Final approval will be given later this month, with Beckham’s £165 million fortune being one of the factors assessed by officials before he gets the green light.

Should his name appear on the Honours List, the GQ Most Stylish Man of the Year 2013 is likely to be reunited with close friend Prince William when he receives his Knighthood at Buckingham Palace in the New Year.

According to UK’s DailyMail, the two have forged a close friendship thanks to their various charitable commitments, amongst them WildAid, a campaign to reduce the demand for rhino horns and ivory.

It will also cap a transitional 12-month period for Beckham, who closed the door on his illustrious playing career at the end of last season after winning the French title with Paris Saint Germain.

Reports confirm that Beckham already has an OBE for his services to football, awarded to him in 2003, and the potential knighthood reflects his contribution to football over the last 20-years, as well his various ambassadorial commitments.

The Nigerian Golden Eaglets quietly returned home on Saturday November 9th after winning the 15th edition of the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

Gov Amaechi To Host Best Of Nollywood Awards Pre-Event Dinner

The Rivers State Government would pull all the stops as it hosts the nominees of this year’s Best of Nollywood Awards to a special dinner in the state capital, Port Harcourt on the 17th of November.
According to the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Nnabuihe Nabbs Imegwu, “We are hosting this year’s BON nominees’ dinner because of our belief in their art and their industry; we believe that they represent the finest breed of Nollywood talents and we want to treat them to our pristine and preeminent hospitality in Rivers State.”

Dr. Imegwu further said that the Governor Rotimi Amaechi administration is acutely aware of the fact that the entertainment industry, especially Nollywood, is a major component of tourism, which the state government is committed to promoting for the advancement of its economy. “We have identified the tourism products that would assist us in driving and expanding the economic space in Rivers State, and Nollywood is a key part of that,” said the Commissioner.

The executive producer of BON, Seun Oloketuyi, says the Rivers State Government’s acceptance to sponsor the nominees’ dinner is a further testament of how far BON has come in the last five years. 

“When we started preparations for this year’s edition, we promised ourselves that being our fifth anniversary, we would not do things the same way we had been doing them since inception which was why we came up with some novel activities like the Talent Meets Class which had Professor Pat Utomi as special guest and the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Adeyemi Ikuforiji, as host. We are delighted that the governor of the good people of Rivers State, Governor Rotimi Amaechi, has also identified with BON and we are optimistic of a beautiful time in Port Harcourt on Sunday.”
